IT IS OFTEN SAID THAT THE FIRST IMPRESSION IS THE MOST LASTING

That being the case, then the services offered by Trendex Inc. to companies and organizations in Colorado are certainly making "a lasting impression."

Trendex opened its Denver operations in 1995 (having purchased the previously existing Binding Systems of Colorado). In 1999, it did $600,000 in sales, according to Will Marquardt, Manager for Trendex in Denver.

"Last year, we doubled that annual figure and are presently well on our way to being 100 percent ahead of last year. Obviously, we are very pleased."

So, what is it that Trendex does that makes lasting impressions and generates sales?

Trendex oversees virtually every aspect of the design and production of presentation and information packages. In a very competitive world where everyone wants to get noticed right away and make that all-important positive impression leading to an eventual sale, Trendex has set itself apart by assisting clients in this critical process.

Trendex began in St. Paul, MN (which is still the corporate headquarters) in 1986 when the two major partners, Jeff and Tom Polacek, bought United Ruling and Binding Co. which was started in 1919. They transformed the company into its present format, then saw sales increase 650 percent in 10 years. The number of employees grew from eight the first year to over 50 today.

Marquardt says the long-standing approach of plowing profits back into operations is "a philosophy which translates into sacrificing short-term profits for a long-term marketing position. A great example of this is when we purchased Binding Systems of Colorado which had existed for 11 years. With an already-established client base in Colorado, we are perched to be the premier full service presentation packaging company in the region."

Most recently, Trendex's Colorado operation acquired a similar company in Des Moines and has been in that market for over a year.

What Trendex does is offer every aspect of an information packaging program. "Packaging Information" in Trendex's world can mean anything from professional presentations for clients, to media kits, sales kits, training manuals or new product launch materials.

"We provide everything from raw supplies, to graphic services, finished products...even equipment," Marquardt adds. "We also have an extensive inventory of components which means we can deliver samples within hours to a client for their review."

Most importantly, he points out, is that Trendex sees itself as a complete project manager. Their experienced, highly-skilled staff works with clients to make presentations "truly special. From cover, binding styles, tabs, and film laminating and mounting to graphic capabilities such as debossing and embossing, foil stamping, silk screening and printing, we work to select those components which will make a real impact."
Marquardt says flexibility is an important aspect of Trendex's approach. They often work with advertising, public relations and graphic design agencies who are seeking solutions for their specific clients.

These days, the phrase "thinking outside the box" gets tossed around rather loosely. Trendex not only thinks outside the box, they even think inside of it. A box format for information or presentation packaging is one of the options they offer. They even offer the choice of having the box done in fabric, paper, poly, vinyl or corrugated.

"We believe the only limits to creating that all-important first impression, is our and the client's imagination," Marquardt says.
