:: Future Issues
The purpose of this forum is to explore the long term implications of new technology on business and society, a topic my columns have covered for approximately 20 years. So far my track record has been pretty good. I predicted desktop publishing in 1984, and the Internet and e-commerce in 1986. As revolutionary as the past 20 years have been, the next 20 years will make the last 20 seem nearly stagnant. One of my recurring themes was that American industry adopted new technologies without ever considering what the long term consequences would be. That’s a mistake America can’t afford to make anymore. Hopefully, this forum will help us consider the future we are building for ourselves.
